+Size Alternative Fashion 2.0

Hey Fab Bats! A couple months ago I posted a +Size Alt Fashion masterpost that you were SUPER enthusiastic about. Some of you had great off-the-list suggestions, so I thought I’d do a 2.0 for you Bat Babes. I also dug around and included a few more masculine selections. Here’s where the fun is at:

  • Candy Strike - Indie shop with artistically morbid designs for all sizes. The designer believes in “fearless fashion, smirks and unapologetic displays of style”.
  • Domino Dollhouse - A wide range of clothing avec class. You can choose between petticoat colors as well.
  • Hell Bunny - On the Rockin’-that-Psycho Billy side, as most +Alt fashion seems to be, but still incredibly Qute.
  • Chubby Cartwheels - I LURV the designs going on here. Feeling the space galaxy witch vibe full force. Also the “Diet Industry Dropout” shirt kills.
  • Hey Viv - Another Retro rollin shop. Only this one’s got a cheeky edge.
  • Chic Star - A huge array of designs to choose from. You can submit your own style ideas for rewards as well.
  • Carmakoma - Has an all black section with basics like turtle necks, sheer shirts and leather pants. Just missing a Smiths record and a coffee mug.
  • Hello Holiday - Fancy-50s-Grunge imo. Mostly simple skirts, dress and lingerie.
  • Retroscope Fashions - Steampunk attire for Ladies and Gentlemen gifted with acute time traveling skills! Grab your mustaches and place a custom order for larger sizes! Quite the extraordinary!
  • Gentelman’s Emporium - Check out the larger sizes, chap.
  • Kambriel - beautifully intricate gothic clothing with both masculine and feminine selections. Custom sizes.
  • Rose Mortem - Beautiful handmade Victorian style wear with custom sizes. You can even choose your own colors although most of you will probably go for black.
  • Deadhouse Dolly - Gothic fashion that also offers a fine selection of spooky accessories.
  • Gloomth - gorgeous handmade clothing with custom sizes. This is how I imagine Wednesday’s wardrobe.
  • Tunnel Vision - psycho 90s vintage craze. Also features model Alyssa Panda Eyes from Dining with Dana’s first interview!
  • Living Doll - Grunge-ish. Particularly like the denim shorts although, for that price, you could probably just cut off a pair of jeans.
  • Modcloth - Crying about this exquisite velvet bathing suit.
  • Monif C. - Warning: colorful. They do, however, have a gorgeous collection of dresses and swimwear.
  • Pinup Girl Clothing - 50s inspired +size fashion. A real way back trip with modern prints. A great alternative to Hell Bunny if you’re looking to step out of Psychobilly town or want to create your own take on it.
  • Jacamo - Masculine wear that’s an inch more fancy than T-shirts and sweats.
  • Corvus Corone - a hauntingly beautiful Etsy shop. Get ready to summon some demons in these outfits.
  • The Pyramid Collection - Wiccan wear. I honestly commend them for calling large sizes “Goddess Sizes”.
  • Sunheart Godess Clothing - caters to “small plus size godess gals”.
  • Seraphim - Good for a witch’s night out.
  • Ashley Nell Tipton - Currently on hiatus but will be back!
  • Blue Fish Clothing - Neo-bobo looking at first, but on second thought these could make some great Mori outfits.
  • Proud Mary - The definition of fattitude.
  • Red Dress NYC - IMPORTANT. Varied in sizes and styles, plus one of the few alternative shops I have seen with a Masculine & Butch section.

lucaiah’s great big fashion post for trans women and transfem people: version 1.0

bpdjackalope:

psychoticyashiro:

hi my name’s lucaiah and i love fashion, so i wanted to help my trans sisters navigate the confusing world of women’s clothing! i’ll be covering things like clothing and shoe sizes, fashion tips, where to buy clothes, and what sort of essentials you might want to have in your wardrobe!

this primarily applies to Americans since i am American, just so you know! also i spent two hours writing this so, you know. reblog it perhaps.

1. Clothing and Shoe Sizes

  1. women’s shoe sizes in the US can be measured by taking your shoe size in men’s shoes and adding 2. for example: i wear a men’s size 8 and a women‘s size 10/11.
  2. zappos is a wonderful site for buying shoes! they have lots of sizes, and if your shoes don’t fit, you can return them with free shipping!
  3. payless also has women’s shoes in-store for up to size 13 or 14!
  4. women’s clothing sizes, however, vary wildly from brand to brand. most websites provide a size chart, fortunately. therefore, you WILL need to know your measurements. here’s what to do: get a measuring tape. it is a worthy investment.
  5. ok, now for BRA SIZES whoo! here’s how to get your bra size. feel free to hmu if you don’t understand it.
  6. underwear/panty sizes: i’ve found a men’s XL corresponds roughly to a woman’s size eight. don’t take my word for it, though: here’s a handy site for undie measurement.

2. Fashion Tips

i believe in wearing whatever you want to wear, fuck what cis people think. however, i also believe that wanting to “pass” as cis is a totally valid thing to want–especially if your safety is at risk. here are some tips:

  1. want to slim your shoulders? peplum designs, V-necks, and long necklaces are your friends. in fact, think “long” everything–long jackets, long shirts, long necklines. avoid structured shirts, shoulder pads, cropped shirts/jackets, and shirts with loud patterns.
  2. want to draw attention to your breasts? get a bra that fits. it makes a world of difference. aside from that, wear statement necklaces that show off your boobies and bright, patterned tops. also, stand up straight! good posture=nice boobs. i promise.
  3. want to narrow your waist? belts are your friend. wear a thinner belt if you’re thin and a wider belt if you’re not. corsets work too, if you’re into that, i guess. peplum tops and wrap dresses are another way to go.
  4. lolita clothing costs are sky-high, but if you can afford it, EVERYONE looks good in it! ;) please consider it i love lolita so much
  5. for my tall girls: http://www.buzzfeed.com/juliegerstein/21-very-necessary-style-tips-for-tall-girls#.cn03yMxn9

3. Where to Buy Clothes

time to be honest: skinny girls have more options than fat ones, and rich ones have more than poor ones. this fat poor person is going to list stores that carry plus-size options alongside smaller ones.

  1. walmart. yes, really. you will find hidden treasures here. cheap ones. buy the essentials here, too.
  2. target. i’m serious. trust me.
  3. maurice’s is a little pricey; be sure to use coupons + sales + clearances to your advantage. they go up to a size 24.
  4. forever 21 and forever 21+ tend to have great online sales, too. they go up to a 3x, occasionally 4x.
  5. kohl’s has nice clearances and some plus-size options. check out their bra sales.
  6. fellow fatties: don’t buy from torrid or lane bryant unless you have to or you have some really good coupons. there are better, cheaper clothes elsewhere.
  7. check your local waterfront mission/goodwill/thrift store/dollar store/what-have-you. they have good things, nice things. make sure to buy essentials here.
  8. modcloth has some cute clearance clothes!

4. Essentials

speaking of essentials, here’s what i recommend to have in your closet if you can afford it:

  1. 3 bras, one skin-tone if you can find it, one white, one black. maybe a sexy colorful bra, too. sexy bras make you feel good. alternate wearing a different bra every day to avoid undue wear and tear, and hang them in your closet instead of folding them up in a drawer. buy a good brand, your boobs will thank you.
  2. two pairs of basic dark-wash jeans. look good on everyone, you can wear them almost anywhere.
  3. a pencil skirt, black or grey.
  4. a white button-down.
  5. a black tank top, a white tank top, and a colorful tank top. they can be paired with many things, and are also good for preserving your modesty if that low-cut shirt is a little too low.
  6. as much underwear as you can afford. here’s a thread on the best types to buy for tucking.
  7. whatever you feel like i mean hon i ain’t the fashion police

5. You Look Beautiful

i mean it. girls? all pretty. i love you. you’re amazing. go kick ass!

everyone feel free to add on to or correct this post, especially with options for international stores and for makeup! (i have no clue how to makeup. i am sorry)

i also recommend the subreddit “ABraThatFits” because they have resources/advice/guides specifically for trans women and transfemme people!!

Check it out, parents-to-be!  This amazing androgynous pregnancy line is about to open, so you don’t have to compromise your look, your gender presentation, or your comfort.

butchbabyco is founded by two awesome people, Vanessa Newman and Michelle Janayea:

“The story of Butchbaby & Co. began with two best friends and a dream. I met my best friend freshman year of college. It was bromance at first sight, and after we hit it off on the first week, we knew we’d be friends forever. We dreamt of growing old together, getting married not too far apart from each other, and having children at the same time so that they too could repeat the cycle of friendship. The thing was, the both of us are butch. Whenever we envisioned our future together, the dream always stopped short at carrying children. We both knew we wanted to, but we could never imagine what we’d wear. And when we did imagine ourselves in pregnant butch attire, that’s exactly what it was— only a figment of our imaginations because these clothes didn’t exist. Then one day, it hit me: I could change that. I could create more androgynous maternity wear not just for me but for every masculine identified individual who dreams of carrying a child and looking handsome doing it. And that’s how Butchbaby & Co. was born. Out of a dream and out of a necessity for all child bearing parents-to-be to have a more comfortable alternative to the current maternity wear we are provided.

So as many of you know, I am in the campaign stages of launching #GENDERFLUX, a gender variant clothing brand tailored for individualism, and marketed in an un-gendered/non-binary way. Well today I was thinking, although a non-binary clothing brand is something that I feel is needed, I also feel that a lot of individuals lack the confidence to actually wear the clothes they would like to, out in public.

So I have a confession…. Although I can wear just about anything out of the house, I am still always on very high alert when I am dressed in an untraditional kind of way. For my photo shoots I have always tried to stay just outside of the main public eye, but…. I WANT TO CHANGE THAT!
I hope that I can inspire you as well, along the way!!!

So from here on out, I have suggested to my photographers, George & Barry, that I want to start shooting my outfits in public spaces with a much higher volume of people & strangers.

My hope is that by sharing these photos along with my experiences, people who feel nervous about being in a public space will be inspired to venture out of the house in their favorite clothes as well, even if its not a very traditional look!

So, here is the first one!
I was actually texting a friend who was meeting me at the mall, but I also was trying not to make to much eye contact because I was nervous about what I was wearing, plus I had a camera on me. Lol.
But, I think this was the best shot!
More to come!
