The HRC published a free pdf Safer Sex for Trans Bodies last year and it’s by and for members of the transgender community. It covers topics from masturbation to talking about sex to HRT along with comprehensive information on safe sex. They also provide more resources at the end for further information

some helpful starter tips for transfems!

or at least, things that worked for me

- get your eyebrows waxed/threaded, it changes your face a lot!

- try groupon or w/e for cheap laser hair removal sessions, dont get IPL, it doesn’t last

- if you’re going to see a doctor about trans stuff, go to one advertised as an informed consent clinic or similar

- the WPATH standards of care have lots of info about confirmed effects and side effects of HRT, the drugs used, dosages and will let you know what to expect from your doctor.

- its okay to lie to doctors and spout off the traditional binary trans narrative if you suspect they might be gatekeepery pieces of shit!

- if you wear traditionally fem clothes to your first apptment and tell the doctor you’ve done a few months of ~real life experience~ you may get extra ~truetrans points~ and get on hormones faster!

- when looking for other resources online, avoid susans place, its very gross and binarist and very much pushes the traditional trans narrative, /asktransgender and /mtf on reddit are better, as is tsroadmap and tumblr

- when shaving legs etc for the first time, don’t use a normal razor on long hair. trim/wax or use a depilation cream first!

- if u can, bring a friend when u go out all femmed up the first few times, for confidence, and so they can fight mean people!

- you don’t have to subscribe to gender roles, traditional understandings of femininity, or beauty standards!

- go at your own pace, don’t let anyone rush you or hold you back!

-avoid terfs like the fuckening plague!

- ur cute as frick!

-you can message me if you ever want help or advice!

- i believe in you!

plz add advice or boost!

- If someone, especially another trans woman, criticizes or ‘questions’ your gender they are not your friend. They dress it up as concern for your well-being but it’s not. It is abuse designed to validate the abuser by invalidating you. Only you can determine your own gender.

- Likewise, when someone criticizes your ‘passability,’ they are not your friend. A good friend would help educate you on how to survive and how to maintain a positive body image in spite of your ability to conform to cissexist beauty standards.

- Seriously, there are trans women who lurk around support groups and do nothing but bully and demean newbie trans women. We call them ‘truescum’ for a reason. Sometimes the scum can form entire enclaves centered around demeaning newcomers. If you  find yourself feeling belittled over your gender or gendered presentation, it’s because you’re in the wrong environment.

- It’s okay not to be able to emotionally stand on your own yet. In fact, it’s normal. Your first job as a budding trans woman is to find a supportive community of people to nurture and grow you into a self-realized person. Be prepared to walk out if you feel belittled or put down. The moderator or leader of the group should take steps to protect you if you are being ‘criticized.’

- Supportive and safe spaces exist, I promise.

- You are transgender and you are a woman, provided you want to be.

Go to your nearest target. Buy a two pack of pushup bras (24$ for 2), and target’s bra inserts (12$). Then go to your nearest Walmart and buy the Vasserette Control Shapewear Panties (2.50 each), they do wonders for helping your tuck. There you go! You just saved yourself a lot of money, you can afford to buy enough to wear every day, and best of all you look fabulous. -@twidx

recs for trans women are so rare on tumblr!! spread this, people.

astrocomposer:

This post serves as an updated version of this post; broken links have been changed/removed and new links have been added. Please reblog this version!

(The asterisks have also been removed from this version. I apologize for that once again; the original post is a good year old and I did not know it was problematic at the time. Also, I do not know of an umbrella type nonbinary flag that is in widespread use, so for the sake of simplicity I used the trans pride flag for the header again. I hope the nonbinary people don’t mind.)

Note: A lot of people have asked about usage on the original post so I will state this here for easy reference:

You may use these resources however you see fit; the goal of this post is not for me to get notes or fame but for people who need these resources to get them. My only request is that if you use some/all of these links in your own resources post, please send me a message and link me to it so I can see/reblog it. (Also, obviously if you’re making your own resources post, simply copypasta-ing mine and adding nothing is not cool.)

In addition, please feel free to shoot me a message if you find broken links/if you have a question/if there’s something you’re looking for/etc.! I’m always happy to help if I can.

Here’s the gender section of the posters my GSA will be putting up around the school!

These posters are by no means exhaustive and I only put the bare basics of each gender on the poster. If there’s a glaring error in a definition or something please tell me so I can fix it before we put these up in real life!

Do you know of any communities for parents of trans children online? I have my daily dose of trans related stories and advice right here to keep me informed and up to speed but my mother doesn't, and she benefits most when being able to discuss with others these rather "out of the ordinary" situations that arise from raising a trans kid. Hope you can help, thanks in advance!

theartoftransliness:

Zak: Yes, there are a couple of great online communities for parents of trans children (or parents of trans adults). Trans Youth Family Allies is probably the largest group that I know of for parents of trans people. They have a private, moderated online forum for parents of trans children ages 3-18. I can never find a link to their other forum for parents of trans adults, but I know it exists. I’d recommend contacting them at info@imatyfa.org to ask about it if your mother would be interested. They also have a ton of resources for parents, including resources in Spanish. Really I can’t talk this organization up enough.

Another organization that I’ve heard of but don’t know too much about is the Purple Rainbow Foundation. It looks like they are more aimed toward advocating for trans youth/families with trans children and educating the public about the needs of trans kids. Still, it seems as though they have some resources for parents, such as answers to some pretty common parent questions in their FAQ. I’m not sure if they have any forums.

Finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t refer you to my mom’s blog. Though she mostly posts news and answers questions, she occasionally posts about being the parent of a trans person and is always willing to answer questions from other parents of trans people or refer them to resources.
