FREE COPIES OF THE ANTHOLOGY AVAILABLE FOR TRANS WOMEN OF COLOR AND AMAB NONBINARY POC

As we approach March 31st, the official publishing date for the anthology, we want to send this message of love and strength out to all the trans women of color and amab nonbinary people of color out there in the world. First and foremost, without you, our sisters and siblings, we could not have envisioned or ever created this writing project. All of you were in our hearts throughout the past year as we went from the initial act of organizing to draft our submission guidelines to editing the stories, designing the book, and, finally, preparing to publish online. More than that, you were here for us like no one else, contributing in a thousand small yet essential ways by boosting our posts, writing to us with support, and by fighting to survive alongside us. The only reason we’ve been able to make this book is because of the work you have done, collectively, to make our lives and our art possible. We love you. This anthology book of our stories already belongs to you, so we will not ask you for payment or anything else in exchange for a copy. Free copies are available for you as of this moment, from now until forever.

Please email us at twocanthology [at] gmail [dot] com or message us here so that we can send you your copy. We won’t ask you to prove your identity or to give us any information. Just ask for a copy and we’ll send it to you as soon as possible.

With warmth,

Ellyn and Jamie, editors

See our Goodreads page. for a full list of our writers and leave us a review/rating.

[The image above continues our tendency of repurposing images of trans feminine people of color that were originally captured and used by cis people. The image is a still from the film Paris is Burning, directed by Jennie Livingston; it shows Carmen and Brooke Xtravaganza smiling at the viewer from a beach.]

Hi, I’m a co-editor and writer in this book project. Please share this post widely so that all trans women of color and all trans and nonbinary people of color who are affected by transmisogyny can get their hands on a free copy. Thanks!

Fantastic New Fairy Tale Stars a Transgender Princess

“Classic fairy tales like Cinderella and Snow White tell the stories of young women who overcome obstacles to live a happy life. (We take issue with the happily ever after having to involve a guy, but they weren’t written in 2015, so.) Still, for young transgender girls, it can be discouraging to see a life you want, but fear you can’t have.

A revolutionary new children’s book called The Royal Heart aims to totally change that. This fairytale is the first in a series of children’s books about LGBTQ characters, staring a little transgender princess named Lyric, who is struggling to be the prince her parents expect her to be. “

vetchpoetry:

We are pleased to announce a new literary magazine: please welcome Vetch Poetry, a biannual journal of trans poetry and poetics. The Fall 2015 issue is now available to view and download, and it’s free as the flowering weed it takes for a name! Here you’ll find work by Stephen (Stephanie) Burt, Maxe Crandall, Joshua Jennifer Espinoza, Joy Ladin, Alok Vaid-Menon, Sara June Woods, and many more. Spread the news, friends.

It’s the magazine i helped make!

God bless Kay, Liam, and Rylee, for being the kindest and hardest working people.

This is so nuts. Like a year and change ago I was like, “Liam, do you want to start a magazine,” and he was like, “Maybe,” and then I was like, “Kay, do you want to start a magazine with us,” and she was like, “Sure,” and that’s how I got to be properly friends with Kay, which has been such a pleasure, and then Rylee came on board and made the thing look beautiful, and–WE DID IT! It’s real now!

So, basically, if you don’t reblog this, I will probably break down.

dylangreenbergmusic:

COMING SOON TO AMAZON AMERICA AND EUROPE AND OTHER ONLINE RETAILERS

“When young Sid decides they don’t feel like they’re a boy or a girl, the people around them are slow to understand. When they go to school the next day, it doesn’t get much better when the teacher decides to separate the class into boys and girls. Despite the hardship they face, Sid discovers that love will always prevail and that being different is not a bad thing. The simple illustrations and fun rhyming story are fun and catchy for any age! The book also includes an activity section where kids can write about or draw their own experiences with having fun, dealing with unfairness,  and remembering those that care about them. Children will fall in love with “”Sid Doesn’t Feel like a Boy or a Girl!”
This book is the perfect educational resource for:
- Children questioning or exploring their gender
- Children who have friends that are questioning or exploring their gender, or just want to learn
- Parents who’s children are questioning or exploring their gender
- Teachers who’s students are questioning or exploring their gender
- Parents or teachers who are misinformed or curious about gender exploration in children
Through this book, the author, a 17 year old transgender girl, hopes to reduce the stigma that is directed at transgender and non-binary children. As there are hardly any children’s books about being transgender, and even fewer about being non-binary, she hopes this book will be a positive contribution.”

[image description: three screencaps from the site titled “All Our Worlds: Diverse Fantastic Fiction”. The first screencap shows the search terms, with an options for “Any of the selected” and “All of the selected”, then the tags gay, bisexual, transgender, genderqueer, noneuropean, multiple culture, disability, pronouns, lesbian, asexual, nonbinary, race, queered culture, all-female, poly, and class. There is a drop down bar for date, and check boxes for Books, Anthologies, and Comics.

The next screencap shows a sample results page, bringing up Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor and Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie, both with covers, summaries, the reason it was added to the database (Akata Witch’s reads “Presents a secret magic world in a noneuropean setting with rules very different from a lot of other works. Disability is addressed many times—in this world, having a physical disability means your magic will be stronger to compensate, resulting in special skills), tags, and publication date.

Last is the screencap of the resources page, subtitled List and Websites, Awards, and Publishers]

Here’s the project I’ve been working on: a searchable index of diverse SF/F.

521 books so far, and I’m still adding more! There’s a page to suggest something if I don’t have it. (hint- I’m very short on comics at the moment!)
