“When I meet up with my trans friends, what stands out is how much we laugh. It can be because of internet memes or jokes, but more often, it has to do with the practical realities of living life while trans. Writing your deed poll, a legal document that proves a change of name, on the back of an envelope (it’s legal no matter where you write it!) and then losing it when you want to show your bank … how tucking can go wrong … everything surrounding bathrooms …
Woman of the Day: Sylvia Rivera, she was a bisexual transgender activist. She was a founding member of both the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activists Alliance and helped found Street Transgender Action Revolutionaries. She was present at the Stonewall Riots, which happened today in 1969.
I don’t know why it took me so long to get around to posting this. A friend linked me to it and I went into the video skeptical as hell, waiting for some factual hiccup, but no; it was just right.
As an agendered person being in the public eye, I get a shit-ton of feedback confusing gender with sex with sexuality with etc., etc. Not only was the video nice enough to differentiate all of these terms, but it even included the possibility of being “neither,” which is often lacking from these discussions.
So, please watch, share, and educate! Whether you are or know someone that is a gender- or sexual-minority, or simply know nothing about the topic yourself, it only takes 3 minutes and 49 seconds to be that much more of an educated and awesome person.
