India’s Supreme Court on Tuesday granted the country’s transsexual and transgender individuals the right to self-identify their gender.Yay for acknowledging the nonbinary!
this is cool, but not cool that they are forcing binary trans people to identify themselves as a third gender, which could lead to all kinda of discrimination especially for AMAB trans folks. However, I know that the Indian perspective on trans and queer identities differs from western notions, as the idea of Hijras and third-gender people is tied to their religions, so I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to criticize.
