So some of you have been commenting on the recent comic post we reblogged about dating trans women, and i thought i’d address a few of them:
Or you could just go out with her because she’s funny, nice and cool. Why bring anything else into it? She’s just a person. Treat her just as you’d treat anyone else (hopefully respectfully). It’s not complicated at all. None of this privilege this or misogyny that…just don’t be an asshole.
You’re kinda missing the point. While you should obviously try as hard as you can not to be an asshole in most things in life, some of the stuff that can be disrespectful or offensive to trans women often isn’t stuff that would ever occur to someone who is not a trans woman (this applies to trans people in general too, not just trans women).
Also if you are (or someone you know is) one of those people who is always saying things like “why can’t we all just be people?” then you should probably watch/share this informative video.
Um that third question isn’t exactly fair to ace or sex-repulsed people.
Like I get what you mean but people questioning their sexuality (or people ignorant of ace and sex-repulsed people) might get confused
“Does the thought of having sex with her stir even the slightest bit of fear or aversion in you?”
This is a fair criticism, so for the purposes of sex repulsed and/or asexual people i would replace it with “Does the thought of having sex with her specifically (etc)”, as in an unusual amount of fear and aversion for her and no one else for some strange reason.
As a trans woman, I think this should be obligatory to read
I agree.
